maze no significant slow downs. once you funnel into the macarthur maze, no metering lights minor delays if you are paying cash, commute lanes and fastrak nice, no problems upper deck into san francisco. southbound 101 tiburon on-ramp, flipped car accident blocking that on-ramp we'll follow that for you. 6:02. developing news in novato. police just arrested two men suspected of stealing copper from a pg&e plan. pg&e says novato police discovered a hole in the fence of the pg&e substation on hamilton drive 3:00 this morning, east of highway 101 at novato boulevard. when they arrived, officers arrested with one at the scene. they found the second suspect two hours later. that police activity should be winding down. new this morning, fire investigators are looking for the cause of a fire that damaged a house and sent several to the hospital in south san francisco, including

one officer. kira klapper is live at the scene. >> reporter: moments ago management company just finished boarding up the home at the same time the four people are at nearby medical center treated for smoke inhalation. the call came in 11:30 last night. residents called, responding crews extinguished the fire in minutes they kept it to the back of the home. the first responding police officer checking the home for occupants suffered smoke inhalation. he and three residents are being treated at a nearby hospital. the damage estimate and the cause are still under investigation. investigators state home is badly damaged. at -- investigators say the home is badly damaged. it will be up to the property owners to decide what to do with the home. kira klapper, abc7 news.

coming up on 6:04. uc berkeley police identified a man suspected in two robberies of women forced to withdraw cash from a campus atm. police are looking for 24-year-old cody alan smith. they say smith and two companions offered to sell magazine subscriptions to two women, when the women declined they were threatened and forced to withdraw cash from the atm. neither woman was injured. san francisco police released identity of suspect shot by officer in the mission district last thursday night, a shooting that caused violent protests and vandalism. police say it is a 20 2-year-old known gang member on parole, shot after police say he pulled a loaded again on an officer if you heard a noise that was one of our lights going out in the studio, with we are okay. this suspect was carrying a tech 9 pistol loaded with 25 rounds. the shooting sparked two

nights of protests and vandalism at the police substation and nearby businesses. san mateo county supervisors can expect a packed meeting this morning when they vote on next year's budget plan that includes 44 million dollars for a new jail. groups opposed to building new jails want that money spent on reducing the jail population. this is video of the existing jail in redwood city deemed no loner sufficient. two hundred people turned out to voice opposition to the new jail. the election is 42 days from now. californians will in a few years be able to register to vote the same day election day. governor brown signed a bill allowing same-day registration yesterday. the old deadline and current deadline is 15 days before an election. if voters cannot be verified on the spot they will be allowed to cast a professional ballot counted if the information checks out it won't start until 2016. when it does, supporters say it could boost voter rolls by

new evidence breakfast is the most important meal of the day. new study finds students who skip breakfast before school saw significant reduction in speed and accuracy in cognitive and memory tests. the study found girls were significantly more disrupted

it runs ons go and electricity -- -- it runs on gas and electricity. $108,000 the most expensive car consumer reports tested. before testers could run it through its paces it broke down at the track and had to be towed. once testing got underway it was clear this unique electric sports car does a lot well. the interior is beautiful, and the ride handling and braking solid. the testers found some problems. >> unfortunately, the controls are a nightmare. in addition, acceleration isn't what you would expect from a sports car. >> reporter: how efficiently does this electric vehicle get you down the road? >> when driving on electric power alone the equivalent of 66 miles per hour -- per gallon range is only 38 miles. >> reporter: you can do better. if you really want an electric vehicle and no one is planning to get you one for your

from 580. elsewhere, northbound 101 at ellis big rig hit crossing bars at the vta tracks, vta is s tk! vta morning. still car turned wrong way headed southbound on to the 101 freeway from tiburon/ blithedale entrance. developing news in novato, police just arrested two men suspected of stealing copper from a pg&e plan. pg&e says police discovered a hole in the fence at the stub station on hamilton drive 3:00 this morning. upon arriving officers arrested one person at the scene and found a second suspect two hours later. police are clearing the scene now. fragments of copper wire and pipe were on the ground. house fire in south san francisco sent four to the hospital for smoke inhalation, including a police officer who helped rescue the three people

inside this was the scene at grand and chestnut this morning. you can see damage and marks left by smoke. fire crews got the call 11:30 last night on knocked the fire down a short time later. san francisco in the spotlight today. supervisors will begin considering allowing the nation's tiniest apartment units idea driven by the city's tight pricey housing market. katie marzullo is live in the south of market area. hard to imagine, but you are going to show us how it looks. >> reporter: almost hard to imagine we'll show you the best we can. if you like behind us this building already houses microapartments. these units are 300 square feet. under the new rules apartments could be as small as 220 square feet. the size of an average parking space if you look at a box truck like that over size would not fit in an average

space. imagine maybe living in the back of that truck. we have video of the inside of one of these microapartments done by a berkeley developer, you are looking at 150 square feet of living space plus bath, kitchen and closet brainchild of supervisor scott weiner he and proponents say it is the only affordable option for single people in the city making up 40% of the population, recents of a microapartment $1200 to $1700 a month versus more than $2,000, the current average price of a studio in san francisco. opponents say the city is already too dense this will add to that, a strain on public transportation and the apartments might not all look as cool as the ones inside ikea and the mock-up, the real ones when it comes down to it might have low ceilings and bad lighting. new york and boston already

experimenting with this, in new york, apartments around 275 square feet, still bigger than what the city of san francisco would allow. supervisors are expected to vote on this today and keep in mind this only applies to new construction. if you are already in an apartment building, your landlord won't be allowed to -- [ inaudible ] katie marzullo abc7 news. :35. people most affected by the all 6th, chevron fire are told there may be no way to prove their health problems are linked to the toxic smoke. at a meeting last night residents learned that chevron's documents called for the pipeline that leaked and caused the fire to be inspected, but it never was that section of pipe was worn to the point it was only 1/5 as thick as it should have been.

investigators say tiny hidden cameras were found along with a stash of drugs in the home of a santa clara elementary school principal arrested last thursday. one of the cameras was found inside a teddy bear. 42-year-old eric dean lewis made his first court appearance yesterday after police say he offered drugs to an uncould have officer. police found meth, ecstasy and date rape drug ghb at his home. he faces five felony drug counts. governor brown headed to google headquarters today to sign a bill to make it legal for the company to test robot cars on city streets google has been testing the car that drives itself it put on a demonstration last spring with a blind man behind the wheel. the car was programmed using google's technology. california volters appear to be divided over whether to
